Step right up! National School Lunch Week (NSLW) is coming October 12–16, 2026, and this year’s Cafeteria Circus theme is putting school lunch center stage.

National School Lunch Week gives your team a reason to have a little fun with lunch and get students excited about what’s being served.

Celebrating doesn’t have to mean adding another big project to your already busy schedule. A few themed menu items, decorations, and student activities can bring the circus to your cafeteria without turning your week into an actual juggling act.

From Big Top Bacon Burgers and Trapeze Tacos to Ringmaster Rotini, Health-e Pro has put together circus-inspired recipes, student activities, and customizable menu templates to help make NSLW a little easier to plan.

Easy Ways to Bring the Cafeteria Circus to Life

You don’t need to completely transform your cafeteria to make NSLW feel special. Pick a few ideas that work for your team and have some fun with the theme.

Give student favorites circus-inspired names.

You don’t have to create an entirely new menu for the week. Give meals you already serve a NSLW themed name or feature one new recipe. Sometimes a themed name is all it takes to make a familiar favorite feel a little more special for the week.

Put your daily menu in the spotlight.

Use circus-themed menu signs in the cafeteria or along the serving line so students can see what’s on the menu. Health-e Pro’s customizable Canva menu templates make it easy to add your daily menu items, personalize the design, and print a new menu for each day.

Plan fun activities for students.

Give students something fun to do while they’re in the cafeteria. Coloring pages, puzzles, mazes, and word searches can be handed out with lunch, shared with teachers to use in the classroom, or sent home for families to complete together.

Create simple circus-themed decorations.

A little construction paper and a few markers can go a long way. Add paper banners to the serving line, create circus signs from cardboard, or decorate your bulletin board with circus images.

Get students involved in the show.

Let students vote for their favorite lunch of the week and create circus-themed artwork to hang up in the cafeteria. At the end of the week, reveal which NSLW meal won first place.

Share the celebration with families.

Post photos of your NSLW meals, decorations, activities, and team on social media. It’s a great way to show families what’s happening in the cafeteria and highlight the work your team does every day.
